SHERER WINS NEW JEFFERSON COUNTY CITIZENS’ COALITION ENDORSEMENT IN DEMOCRATIC RACE FOR STATE TREASURER

BIRMINGHAM – “I am humbled and honored by the endorsement of the New Jefferson County Citizens’ Coalition”, stated Jeremy Sherer, Democratic candidate for State Treasurer.

“Both the NJCCC and I are committed to restoring strength and vitality to Jefferson County’s local economy. As State Treasurer, through the principled management of state deposits, I can assist local financial institutions in creating economic and community development opportunities.”

“My commitment to local, community lending was key in obtaining the NJCCC endorsement. Presently, Alabama has $270 million of taxpayer funds deposited in financial institutions based outside of the state of Alabama, while there are certified, locally-based lending institutions that do not presently hold any state deposits.”

“I am committed to placing Alabama taxpayer dollars within Alabama banks, so as to create local lending opportunities for local businesses, entrepreneurs and citizenry.”

“Moreover, I share the belief of the NJCCC that financial institutions that have been found guilty by federal lending regulators to have discriminated against borrowers should not receive state taxpayer funds. Under our current state Treasury administration, this policy is not practiced.”

“The principles of the New Jefferson County Citizens’ Coalition are to bring efficiency and trust to Jefferson County government; to help Birmingham’s metropolitan area grow and compete nationally; to grow jobs and business within Birmingham; and, to rebuild and maintain Birmingham’s fiscal strength”. I, too, am committed to these principles.

“As a native of the Birmingham metro area, I grew up in an era when local politics was profoundly influenced by the strength of the Citizens’ Coalition. I fully appreciate the direct impact that the Coalition has had in choosing the future leaders of Alabama, and I look forward to working with the NJCCC to build a stronger, more prosperous Alabama for all of us.”
