SHERER WELCOMES GRIMSLEY TO TREASURER’S RACE, DEMOCRATIC PARTY
BIRMINGHAM – Jeremy Sherer, Democratic candidate for Alabama State Treasurer, today welcomed Charley Grimsley to the 2010 Alabama Treasurer’s race.
“I am supportive of any person’s sincere desire to improve the State of Alabama, and I welcome Mr. Grimsley’s input in how we restore competency and integrity to the Treasurer’s office”, said Sherer.
Further, Sherer stated, “Mr. Grimsley’s service fifteen years ago as Conservation Commissioner is commendable. Moreover, I’m confident that former Lt. Governor Steve Windom appreciated Mr. Grimsley’s service as his Chief of Staff, and former Chief Justice Roy Moore appreciated Mr. Grimsley’s assistance with his campaign for Governor in 2006.”
“However, as a Democrat and as a candidate for the 2010 Democratic nomination for Treasurer, I have doubts whether Mr. Grimsley, whose credentials of working for Republicans that have been openly antagonistic of the Democratic Party platform and Democratic elected officials, shares the spirit and values Democrats expect from their candidates and nominees.”
“I was raised a Southern Baptist, and therefore I believe in salvation on the death bed. So, I welcome Mr. Grimsley back into the fold of the Democratic Party. But Mr. Grimsley’s resume reads as though he can’t decide on what he truly believes in the context of politics.”
“Alabamians have had a Republican Treasurer for the last eight years. I believe we now need a Democratic Treasurer that is committed to Democratic ideals of community banking, financially sound investing, and supporting economic development that benefits our entire state, in order to cure Alabama from the effects of Kay Ivey’s Treasury administration. And, I believe the Democratic Party has a vested interest in that Alabamians have the option of electing a true Democrat with Democratic values as the next Treasurer.”
Concluding, Sherer stated, “I plan to win the Treasurer’s race through superior policy proposals which restore honesty, integrity and competency to the Treasurer’s office. And, regardless of political party preference, I doubt any Alabamian believes our next Treasurer should be one that ardently opposes economic development as Mr. Grimsley”.
“I believe my campaign will first prove to Democrats that I am the best nominee to represent the Party in November 2010, and I am confident our campaign will prove it has the best ideas to right the many problems facing our state that emanate from the Treasurer’s office.”
