AUBURN – Jeremy Sherer, Democratic candidate for Alabama State Treasurer, attended the Thursday night, inaugural meeting of the Lee County Chapter of Save Alabama PACT. Approximately 80 PACT owners, students and concerned citizens attended the first meeting of the Lee County Chapter that was held at Auburn’s Grove Hill Subdivision.

“I am committed to Alabama honoring its full contractual obligations to all 48,000 PACT families”, Sherer told the members of Save Alabama PACT.

Continuing, “PACT will not be saved by any one elected official, and PACT cannot be saved without you. The solution of PACT will require collaboration from the Legislature, Governor, Treasurer and state higher education institutions.”

Sherer also extended his apology to PACT families on behalf of the Alabama Treasury for the management of PACT.

“I know you would prefer to hear this from the incumbent Treasurer rather than the future Treasurer, but I believe this statement is long overdue. I apologize to each of you for the management of PACT, the lack of due diligence in the management of PACT investments, and the lack of forthrightness concerning the health of PACT. I can promise you that my Treasury administration will do better, and we will be more honest about our efforts.”

Concluding, Sherer stated, “You (PACT contract holders) are in the contractual and moral right on this issue. And, through your continued activism you will be the unlikely heroes of solving PACT – not any elected official. Your activism on this issue will ensure that right will make might, and PACT will be saved.”
